Catholic Church teaches that marriage between two baptized persons is a sacrament, it is saying that the couple’s relationship expresses in a unique way the unbreakable bond of love between Christ and his people. Like the other six sacraments of the Church, marriage is a sign or symbol which reveals the Lord Jesus and through which his divine life and love are communicated.
St. Stanislaus would like to congratulate both of you on your upcoming wedding! You should contact our Parochial Administrator, Fr. Roger, as soon as possible to set the wedding date.
Know that our prayers and support are with you as you prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony. We look forward to working with you as you begin to prepare for your wedding date.
The following information will assist you in this effort:
o Basic Information – The priest usually completes a short questionnaire with the couple to ensure that the couple is free to enter into marriage.
o Baptismal Certificates – Catholics as well as non-Catholics will need to secure a baptismal certificate issued for marriage purposes and dated no earlier than six months prior to the wedding. If for some reason these are not available, due to fire or other reasons, a sworn statement may suffice.
o Marriage License – For marriage at St. Stanislaus a civil marriage license must be obtained. This license can be acquired from the New Hanover County Marriage License Department located at 216 N. 2nd Street, Room 2 Wilmington, NC. The office is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Both the Bride and Groom must be present when the license is issued.
o Marriage Preparation Program – The dates and locations for a One Day Workshop and or a weekend for Engaged Couples can be found on the Diocese of Raleigh web page. You can register on line for a workshop that best fits your schedule.
o Widows & Widowers – an authentic certificate of death of their departed spouses with whom they were married and a marriage certificate of the previous wedding.
o Declaration of Nullity – This is required if the person was previously married and the former spouse is not deceased.
