Chairperson: Carolyn Cash
Purpose:
Our committee is responsible for organizing and facilitating activities involving parishioners in acts of charity and justice. We respond to requests for assistance based on the church’s teachings on social and economic justice.
Areas of Ministry:
Assistance to parishioners and area residents. Outreach in times of loss or illness, help with disaster assistance, coat and sweater collection in winter, Meals on Wheels six times a year on weekends, and financial assistance to Helping Hands.
Catholic Parish Outreach/Wilmington-Castle Hayne Area. Social Ministries works with Life Line Pregnancy Center with a Walk-A-Thon, and also donates toys and clothes to the center. Baby gifts are given to families with new babies in our Parish.
Respect Life, Birthchoice, Office of Peace and Justice: these organizations are supported with various activities such as the Crop Walk and the Right to Life march.
Holiday Giving:
An annual Giving Tree project where tags with specific gift items are placed on a tree for several families and individuals. Also, presents for residents at a local nursing home and gifts for the people who are helped by Helping Hands.
Future Goals:
Social Ministries plans to visit the homebound and Nursing Home residents of our Parish on a regular schedule. We also plan to volunteer at a soup kitchen, and also continue to financially assist the Help Hands Ministry.
